Project Summary
One of the elementary schools I worked at had recieved 28 "new to them" computers and wanted to create a computer lab. When they recieved the desktops, they simply threw them into a room in standard rows and said "done!" After looking at the current setup, the needs of the school, and the unique properties of the room, I redesigned the computer lab to a more suitable layout. With the new design the space is more welcoming and functional. The new layout accomplished the following:
- Creates an open seating area infront of the SmartBoard for direct instruction
- Allows every child to see the SmartBoard while seated at their computer, even with 17" CRTs
- Allows the teacher to see every monitor
- Maintains the space dedicated for the School Based Technology Specialist
- Creates a work area for specialists and teachers to sit while helping a class
